Copyright Policy

This policy explains how UsTheMemory handles copyright concerns for cards, contributions, uploaded media, and published card pages. Last updated May 29, 2026.

Respect copyright

  • Only upload text, photos, videos, audio, music, artwork, and other material that you own, have permission to use, or are otherwise allowed to use.
  • Do not upload copyrighted material from another person, website, social platform, streaming service, event vendor, photographer, videographer, or publisher unless you have the rights needed to share it in a card.
  • If you are a card owner, you are responsible for inviting contributors thoughtfully and removing contributions that you believe may violate copyright or other rights.

Copyright reports

  • If you believe content hosted by UsTheMemory infringes your copyright, you can send a written notice asking us to review and remove or disable access to the material.
  • Please include enough detail for us to identify the card, contribution, media file, or published page at issue. A direct URL is the most helpful.
  • We may forward your report to the card owner, contributor, account holder, or other relevant party so they can understand and respond to the claim.

What to include in a notice

  • Your physical or electronic signature, or the signature of a person authorized to act for the copyright owner.
  • Identification of the copyrighted work you believe has been infringed, or a representative list if your report covers multiple works.
  • Identification of the material you believe is infringing and information reasonably sufficient for us to locate it.
  • Your contact information, such as your name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address.
  • A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the disputed use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
  • A statement that the information in your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are authorized to act for the copyright owner.

Counter-notices

  • If content you submitted is removed or disabled because of a copyright report, you may send a written counter-notice if you believe the content was removed by mistake or misidentification.
  • A counter-notice should include your signature, identification of the removed material and its prior location, your contact information, and a statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed or disabled by mistake or misidentification.
  • A counter-notice may also need to include consent to the jurisdiction of the appropriate federal court and acceptance of service from the person who submitted the original notice or their agent.

Repeat infringement

  • We may remove content, disable cards, restrict contribution links, suspend accounts, or terminate accounts that repeatedly or seriously infringe copyrights.
  • We may also remove or disable content when we believe doing so is necessary to comply with law, protect the service, or reduce risk to users or rights holders.
